For nearly 10 years the Experiential Learning Funds have supported extracurricular design/implement engineering projects in which students learn by doing, often in the spirit of competition. These funds, totaling up to $100,000 per year, result from the commitment of a donor to realizing the potential of hands-on student learning at the University of Virginia.

Apex has been built with a singular focus: to speed the shift to clean electricity. Drawing from their experience with several of the nation’s leading renewable energy companies, Apex’s founders set out to create a company with the capacity to excel in every phase of project realization, from origination and financing to construction and asset management.

Students have the potential to further the School’s programs and enhance the reputation of the School by forming organizations for engineers, getting involved in the local community, attending conferences, participating in scientific competitions, and more. In recognition of this, the Engineering Student Council (ESC) has created a Student Travel and Activities Fund (TAF) to help support and finance these efforts.

The UVA School of Architecture Fabrication Lab, or FabLab, is a center for empowering people with tools for making, prototyping, and construction at a range of scales, materials, and techniques.

The Student Activities Fee (SAF) is an annual fee collected in addition to the tuition of all full-time students at the University of Virginia. The Appropriations Committee of Student Council allocates these monies pursuant to its own guidelines and those established by the Board of Visitors.

Directed by the UVA Parents Committee, the Parents Fund supports student clubs and cultural events, academic enhancement programs and career services, health and wellness initiatives, and class dinners and traditions that enrich student life across Grounds.

The Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) is an annual track competition that is held on grand prix or road style closed courses. This unique style of solar car racing is open to teams from around the world and truly tests the limits of the vehicles in handling curves, braking, and acceleration. The winner of FSGP is determined by the total number of laps completed over the three days of racing. The team that completes the fastest single lap around the track is also recognized in the awards ceremony.
